Rehabilitation Tax Credits
A tax credit is different
from a tax deduction.
A deduction is taken from your earned income and causes you to
pay a lower amount of taxes.
A credit is taken off of the income taxes you owe to the federal
or state government.

The state income tax credit is equal to 25% of qualified
rehabilitation expenses.

The federal income tax credit is equal to 20% of
qualified
rehabilitation expenses associated with a certified
rehabilitation on any certified historic structure.

Heritage Trust Fund Grants
Grants are
available to properties listed on the State or National Register
of Historic Places.
At least 50% of the grant funds awarded annually must be used
for eligible properties owned by county and local governments,
county and local historical societies, and private non-profit
organizations.
Eligible project activities include professional services for
planning, temporary stabilization, and rehabilitation and
restoration work.
Applications are solicited each year and are ranked by the
Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review.

Incentives Without Walls Grant Program

Only active designated Kansas Main Street programs’ in good
standing* will be eligible to apply for the IWW grant funds by
submitting application to the Kansas Main Street program.
*Must be in full compliance with annual Memorandum of
Agreement.

Office of Rural Opportunity
The Office of Rural Opportunity is
designed to spur rural community development in Kansas. Housed
within the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Office serves as a
contact point for rural communities seeking assistance in the
development of strategic plans to attract businesses, workers
and investment. The Office will ultimately have four regional
locations throughout Kansas, which will allow Office staff to
maximize their time in the field and create a community-driven,
bottom-up approach to rural development in Kansas.

The KSBDC Network provides
entrepreneurs and small business owners with knowledge, tools
