State and Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credits

A tax credit is different from a tax deduction.  A deduction is taken from your earned income and causes you to pay a lower amount of taxes.  A credit is taken off of the income taxes you owe to the federal or state government.

  • The state income tax credit is equal to 25% of qualified rehabilitation expenses.
  • The federal income tax credit is equal to 20% of qualified rehabilitation expenses associated with a certified rehabilitation on any certified historic structure.

Be sure to check with Katrina Ringler at 785.272.8681 ext. 213 or kringler@kshs.org  before beginning any rehabilitation or restoration project.  For further information go to:  www.kshs.org/resource/shpostaff.htm
